What You Need to Know About Blepharoplasty

Bleph Overview

Blepharoplasty Overview

Upper Bleph: Lifts and removes excess skin above the eyelid.

Lower Bleph: Reduces under eye bags for a more awake look.

What to Expect During Recovery

Though it is different for every patient, we recommend taking at least ten days off after a blepharoplasty surgery. This allows enough time for swelling and bruising to subside.

Days 1-7

In the first week, patients will feel tired from surgery and medications. In this time it is recommended for patients to have plenty of rest and sleep in an upright position to reduce swelling. The peak of bruising and swelling will be around days 3 and 5. Patients say using an ice pack helped with discomfort and swelling. Remember, bruising and swelling may be uneven. It is sometimes recommended to not look in a mirror at this time if you are feeling self-conscious.

Days 8-14

In this time most patients are still experiencing swelling.  A post-op is scheduled during this time to remove stitches and check on healing process. Scars will be red, but covering up with makeup will do the trick.

After Recovery

We recommend at least ten days off until you go back to work, but it may take six to eight months for scars to be completely healed.  If you ever have any problems or questions before or during the recovery process, don’t hesitate to contact TOC Eye and Face. The main goal of recovery is to be positive and stay beautiful!

Main Blepharoplasty Questions

Will insurance cover the treatment?

Will insurance cover the treatment? Lower Blepharoplasty is not covered, while Upper Blepharoplasty is a tricky subject because of the multiple factors that go into insurance. It depends on the company, the medical plan, and how low the upper eyelid hangs. With a consultation, one of our board-certified surgeons can speak with you one-on-one to address any questions or concerns you have.

Will there by scaring?

The incisions are made in the crease of the eyelid to hide scarring. After the first weeks after surgery, scarring will become less and less noticeable. Because your eyelids are constantly moving, it may take six to eight weeks for scarring to be completely healed.

What are the top procedures to pair with blepharoplasty?

Depending on your final goals, blepharoplasty can be paired with a variety of procedures for an overall more energized, youthful look. TOC Medical Spa offers Botox and fillers to reduce other signs of aging. Before any final decisions, we always recommend scheduling an appointment so one of our board-certified doctors can better understand what procedures will be best for you.
