Tanuj Nakra, MD, FACS is a triple board-certified facial and ophthalmic plastic surgeon who has practiced at TOC Eye and Face since 2008. He is widely recognized for his expertise in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, having been named a Top Doctor by Texas Monthly, Austin Monthly, and Castle Connolly for more than a decade. Prior to moving to Austin, he practiced in Santa Barbara and Beverly Hills.
Dr. Nakra earned his bachelor's degree at Washington University in St. Louis, studying biology, psychology and fine arts. He earned his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the highest honor given to medical school graduates. He completed his residency and fellowship training at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute, where he was awarded the Devgan Prize for the graduating resident with the highest surgical skills.
Dr. Nakra serves on the full-time faculty at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, and directs the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) Fellowship at TOC Eye and Face. He has authored over 75 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters, delivered more than 300 invited lectures worldwide, and served as course director for over 20 courses at major professional meetings. A recipient of the 2024 Henry Baylis Cosmetic Surgery Award from the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), Dr. Nakra is known for his significant contributions to the field of aesthetic surgery. He has also received the Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Nakra is the co-founder of AVYA Skincare, a medical-grade Ayurvedic skincare line, and Global Cosmetic Surgery, an international virtual medical education platform.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Nakra is an avid marathoner, enjoys cooking, and loves spending time outdoors with his family and their rescue dog. He and his wife are also long-time supporters of Ballet Austin and the Center for Child Protection.
