A lip lift is a surgical facial rejuvenation procedure that shortens the distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip, creating greater visible upper-lip vermilion and improving the proportions of the lower third of the face.
In this procedure a carefully designed strip of skin is removed from the area immediately beneath the nostrils, following the contours of the nasal sill and columella. The incision is then closed so that the upper lip is elevated and slightly everted.
Typical candidates notice long upper-lip height, particularly with aging, reduced vermilion show, downward/inward rotation of the upper lip, excessive distance between the columella/nasal base and vermilion or a desire for more visible upper lip without relying primarily on filler.
The procedure shortens the upper-lip–nasal distance, increases visible vermilion show, produces mild upper-lip eversion, improves the appearance of the Cupid’s bow, creates a more youthful upper-lip appearance without adding volume, and can improve facial proportions in patients with a long upper cutaneous lip.
