Dr. Makayla McCoskey was born and raised in Southeast Michigan. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree with High Distinction in Biomolecular Science from the University of Michigan. She went on to earn her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where she also completed certificate programs in Medical Education and Clinical Neuroscience. She was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism honor societies and was awarded the Charles A. Oliver Memorial Prize for the student who achieves the highest record of performance in Ophthalmology. Dr. McCoskey was also recognized with the American Medical Women’s Association Glasgow-Rubin Academic Achievement Award, awarded to a woman graduating first in her medical school class.
Dr. McCoskey completed her residency at Massachusetts Eye and Ear in the Harvard Medical School Department of Ophthalmology. During her training, she continued to pursue research endeavors, publishing numerous peer-reviewed publications, and furthered her passions for teaching and medical education. Outside of medicine, Dr. McCoskey enjoys listening to live music, playing guitar, practicing yoga, and traveling to new destinations.
