Doctor Donovan Reed was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors from East Tennessee State University with a degree in Chemistry and minors in Biology and Anthropology. He was then commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and graduated as class Valedictorian from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society.

Doctor Reed completed his Internship in General Surgery and his Ophthalmology Residency at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium where he served as a Clinical Instructor of Surgery for the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine and as Chief Resident of the Ophthalmology Residency. During his time in residency, he was named Top Ophthalmology Resident, elected to the House Staff Hall of Fame, awarded the Major David S. Berry Graduate Medical Education Top Resident Award, and received the United States Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service. He then completed fellowships in Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Facial Cosmetic Surgery at Texas Oculoplastics Consultants (TOC) Eye & Face in Austin, Texas. His passion for education has been present throughout his medical training, and he was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award by the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium Ophthalmology Department and is currently an Assistant Professor of Surgery for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Doctor Reed has also served at the national level on the American Academy of Ophthalmology Committee for Resident Education and currently serves on the New Surgeons Committee for the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. He has published multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts, chapters, and abstracts, and presented his research at national and international meetings. He has also served as a reviewer for multiple scholarly publications.

Doctor Reed was a recipient of the American College of Surgeons Operation Giving Back Scholarship and has participated in multiple humanitarian missions, including ophthalmic surgical missions in Myanmar, Panama, Burundi, and the Dominican Republic. He has received multiple awards for academic excellence and his research endeavors, including recognition by Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and the Dr. Kenneth L. Piest Award for Excellence in Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Research. He currently serves as a Major in the United States Air Force, working as an attending Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon at Brooke Army Medical Center and as Surgical Director for the Department of Ophthalmology at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. Recently, he was selected to the Order of St. Lucia by the Society of Military Ophthalmology for his contributions to the profession of military medicine. He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology and in Facial Cosmetic Surgery by the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery. He is also a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In his spare time, Dr. Reed enjoys riding horses and spending time with family and friends.
