Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower Eyelid Surgery

An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, can dramatically improve a tired or aged appearance or correct a disorder of the eyelid. For patients with baggy eyes or drooping eyelids, we remove excess skin and tissue from around the eyes to reveal an invigorated and more youthful appearance. It is one of the most popular aesthetic procedures performed in the United States. The photos below illustrate the natural results you can expect from our surgeons.

Patients often consider both an upper and lower eyelid lift to reduce bags and signs of aging around the eyes. With our state-of-the-art fractional CO2 laser, eyelid lift surgeries are quicker and gentler than ever before. This advanced skin resurfacing technology offers numerous advantages over conventional techniques, including:

  • Extremely precise control and advanced capabilities
  • Lower risk of unpleasant recovery issues
  • Typical recovery time after only 1-2 weeks
  • Convenient facilities in our outpatient surgery center
  • Integration of multiple procedures as part of a personalized facial surgery plan

The eyelid lift procedure also helps patients suffering with Ptosis, a condition affecting the muscle that lifts the eyelid, resulting in eyelid drooping and vision problems. Ptosis can be caused by aging, trauma, neurologic problems, or at birth. Drooping eyelids can affect vision and cause fatigue and headache. If there is a significant degree of visual obstruction, an eyelid lift may be considered medically necessary and covered by your medical insurance plan. TOC physicians can provide you with a consultation to help determine if an eyelid lift is a medical necessity for you.

As our patient you or your loved one will receive evaluation and treatment by one of our elite oculoplastic surgeons, each with advanced specialized credentials, to give you the uncompromising care and extraordinary results we are known for. Eyelid lift or ptosis surgery is typically performed under local or IV sedation for adults and general anesthesia for children. For most patients, the recovery time from surgery is brief and bruising is minimal. The procedure usually takes under an hour and can be performed with other procedures including laser resurfacing for facial wrinkles and skin tightening, brow/forehead lift (endo-brow lift), facelift, facial fat transfer, and rhinoplasty.

Most procedures may be performed in an ambulatory surgery center setting. Outpatient (ambulatory) surgery helps to reduce hospital costs, personal expense, and length of stay for patients needing surgery. For those times when surgery is best performed at a hospital, TOC physicians have surgical privileges at all Austin-area hospitals and many ambulatory surgery centers.

We understand that any patient may feel anxious or apprehensive about treatment. Our goal is to help you or your loved one feel at ease. We engage each patient with sensitivity and respect for his or her individual needs.
